Acne can affect anyone. It shows up primarily on the face but can show up on the back, arms, and other areas as well. Some people only have light, occasional break-outs while others have sores that come and go for years and require treatment. There are several choices available in curing acne. For severe or frequent blemishes, a dermatologist is recommended. Discovering a natural remedy for acne is more appropriate for the milder cases.
Using a natural acne treatment is the simplest way to cure acne. It only requires some changes in your diet or taking some herbs and vitamins to supplement your current nutritional needs.
On the diet front, you should try to cut back on sugars, oils and fats as much as possible. In excess, these are not good for a balanced diet. Easy changes you can make are replacing chips with a vegetable snack and drinking water instead of soda. Overall, being healthier will have a great impact on your skin’s health.
There has been a lot of debate over whether or not diet affects acne. Diet changes alone may not cure your acne, but your diet changes along with you taking certain vitamins will improve your acne. Zinc is a vitamin supplement that aids in acne treatment. Zinc helps prevent acne from coming back as well as healing the blemishes you already have. Low doses of Vitamin A can help reduce the production of sebum, your skin’s natural oil.
Other supplements that may help with acne are herbs that have anti-inflammatory properties. A few herbs that fall into this category include calendula, witch hazel, licorice root, flaxseed and flaxseed oil, and tea tree oil. These herbs can help decrease acne inflammation by reducing the amount of P. acnes bacteria as a reaction to clogged pores. Tea tree oil has been compared to benzoyl peroxide, and it has fewer side effects than benzoyl peroxide- less itching, stinging and dry skin.
Other herbs are also effective in a different way. These herbs are best used as a long term treatment and are quite gentle in their effect. These herbs, given for chronic inflammatory problems related to the skin, work over time improving the general health of the body. Herbs in this class are cleavers, figwort, echinacea, burdock, red clover, poke root and blue flag. You can mix blue flag, burdock, yellowdock, and echinacea together and then fuse with hot water to make a tea. Drink a cup of this 3 times a day. Add a little honey to the tea to sweeten it and make it taste better.
The fact that your body will benefit from healthier eating and your skin isn’t being exposed to harsh chemicals is an advantage of having a natural remedy. To help keep your system clean change your diet to avoid greasy and sugary foods. This benefits your overall health as well as your skin.
Diet modifications and vitamin supplements are not the only options you have as a natural remedy for acne. Stress can cause you to have acne. By reducing the stress in your life you also reduce the acne you have. People get stressed out by different things, and each person can find different ways to relieve that stress. Getting plenty of rest and exercising are beneficial to reducing stress. Practicing yoga or taking a walk are other activities that can help. Both can help you relax and clear your mind. Natural remedies for acne may not be the answer to your problems, but they’re an easy and painless method to try.
